Yes.
Although the unit is primarily intended to be used between
a stereo Preamp or Home Theater controller/receiver and
power amps, there are four physical inputs (unbalanced
RCA, Balanced XLR, unbalanced digital RCA and balanced
AES/EBU digital XLR), so it is possible to use the PDC-2.6
as a Preamp.
Volume Control
The PDC-2.6 unit has
a volume control on the front panel. Six channels of
high quality Burr-Brown analogue volume controls are located
after the six DACs to maintain full dynamic range at
lower listening volumes. Remote volume control/analogue
volume control is available as an option. As well as main
volume control, when a PC is connected running DEQX analysis
software, each of the six crossover outputs (2 x 3) has
its own 'preset' level adjustment, which is variable from
plus and minus 20dB. Also each output (driver) can be dynamically
muted or solo'd. The main stereo input can be switched
to mono (uses left source input) to check center imaging.

Selection
One
of the four stereo inputs can be selected using the
PC, or through dual-combination button selections in
the front panel. Default selection of one of the analogue
inputs is optionally automatically overridden if a
digital input is found, say from a CD player. This
may allow say a home theater Preamps front L+R outputs
to be passed to the PDC's L/R analogue inputs, while the
digital output from a dedicated CD/DVD player might be
connected only to the digital input.
