Like loudspeakers,
microphones are also mechanical transducers and might be
expected to contribute a similar magnitude of corruption
as loudspeakers. In fact, microphones are inherently accurate
compared to loudspeakers. Although microphones have varying
dynamic and frequency response roll-off characteristics,
quality microphones used for professional recordings are
quite phase accurate over their intended range. Compared
to speakers, a properly selected microphone contributes little
distortion or coloration.
