DEQX™ for DIY Speaker Builders

DEQX is the ultimate tool for do-it-yourself speaker designers allowing the best possible performance for any type of design imaginable. Speaker builders easily create a new DEQX XO™ active speaker configuration from scratch or modify an existing speaker design by removing its passive or active crossovers and then correcting each driver’s time-domain performance, frequency-response, dispersion and crossover distortion.

DEQX XO active technology offers best results as each driver has its own amplifier. In addition to speaker and room correction the DEQX Processor Preamp optionally provides up to 3-way linear-phase crossovers to facilitate active designs and/or seamless integration of mono or stereo subwoofers.

DEQX also provides precise control over bass frequencies and their effects in your room. After measuring the bass results are displayed then correcting compensation applied. Bass articulation is vastly improved as the speakers better couple to the room -- a major factor in the sound you hear.

Using two subwoofers results in improved efficiency and less distortion but time aligning the subwoofers and main speakers is incredibly important and often overlooked in many audio and surround sound installations. Let’s say the subs are located 4-feet away from the main speakers representing about 4 milliseconds at the listening position. Time-alignment delivers a much more coherent bass wavefront compared to floor-standing full-range speakers where bass energy echoes from rear and side walls. DEQX calculates the exact delay required for phase-coherent integration of the main speakers and subwoofer(s).

Although active DEQX XO requires more amplifiers they only have to drive a few octaves rather than traditional powerhouse amps that have to push ten octaves at full power... faultlessly. That’s a tall and expensive order. But an active XO setup lessens the demands on each amplifier reducing distortion while simultaneously reducing intermodulation distortion of the speakers’ own bass and midrange drivers.

Pick your amplifiers accordingly; high power and good damping for the bass and lower power more highly resolving amps for the midrange and high frequencies. Even if the same amps are used for each frequency band their performance will be improved because of limited power-bandwidth load. You can’t lose!

DEQX provides a degree of control over speaker measurement, crossover and time alignment not previously available even with professional studio monitors. But that’s not all... the Preamplifier Processor provides 100-memory media correction and three-band parametric EQ  so individual recordings can be adjusted, stored and recalled from the remote control.
