DEQX™ for Multichannel Surround Systems
To save costs many home theater products focus on volume and low frequency effects at the expense of resolution and accuracy sacrificing high-impact you-are-there sound. The uniquely powerful DEQX speaker correction and room compensation algorithms are employed in professional surround mastering by some of the worlds’ leading studios such as Abbey Road in London where impact, accuracy and transparency are required.
The synchronization between image and sound is an important element of experiencing immersive surround sound for music and video. A typical home theater system provides no time sync between video and audio, unlike a studio environment, so the Processor has to get the job done before the next frame or you’ll experience Poorly Dubbed B-Film Kung-Fu movie Syndrome. Fortunately DEQX features low latency correction so the time it takes the signal to get in and out of a DEQX Processor is remarkably low, as fast as 6/1000th of a second.
DEQX Preamp Processors easily integrate with surround sound decoders, preamps and even home theater receivers. The right implementation depends on your needs and associated equipment. And how far you want to go!
Single DEQX Surround Systems
Traditonal surroud setups use five speakers and one subwoofer, or 5.1. The best-value surround implementation employs a single DEQX Preamp Processor to correct EQ on the Front Left and Right speakers, optionally integrating one or a pair of subwoofers with them.
Or extend the low-end of a three-way speaker by setting DEQX to treat the speakers’ woofers as subwoofers and program your receiver’s Front L/F speaker settings to Large. If your receiver has additional settings that direct the LFE channel to subs only, mains only, or both, set them to send LFE to the main ports so you won’t need an additional LFE subwoofer.
This works extremely well as long as your speakers are solid down to the mid-30s; not really subwoofer territory, but if your speakers have long-throw drivers they’ll likely handle a 20Hz signal and roll off naturally. LFE management is accomplished with the AVR.
Multiple DEQX Surround System
The next level employs two DEQX Preamp Processors that add correction for the center channel and an external subwoofer dedicated to LFE; you may choose to send the LFE signal to your main speakers’ woofers or let the subwoofer handle the lower frequencies. Two Processors also brings that DEQX magical clarity to the center channel where dialog and special effects reinforce on-screen visuals.
The next step – quite popular in fact – is adding another Processor for the Surround speakers or even a fourth DEQX for the Surround Backs, Front-Wide or Presence speaker pairs.
Using multiple DEQX Preamps opens up many possibilities for optimizing your system’s performance. And it’s all possible because only DEQX Preamp Processors have ultra-fast, low latency correction technology that’s so unique it’s patented!
